ARC3-Utrechtse RC 4 recap

Guys,

I do not know about you, but my usual bumps and bruises from yesterday’s match, feel a lot different this morning that they did in the past…maybe this all has to do with the fact that we WON the match on Sunday!

I want to start the week 4 recap with the “Man of The Match”, and you guys know that the honour this time is for the entire team. And by that I mean not only the guys that fought like lions on the pitch yesterday, but all the players that have played and contributed to the 3rd team this season and last season as well. We can all celebrate this first win of the “Turds” and look forward to many more wins to come!

On the pitch yesterday we saw continued improvement from the previous matches, better concentration and continuity, more structure in building up phases of play. I asked you guys before the match to validate the amazing work we put together in training the last few weeks and on the pitch we did just that. We are looking more and more like a team.

We did stick to our game plan and it all started from the first kick off: we agreed on a tactic and executed it brilliantly, and the result was that we scored our first try in less than 2 minutes. Structure and organization will go a long way to win matches in our league.

Defensively we put together a great performance, we did not allow the opposition to score a single point against us, we kept driving them back, even when playing 14 against 15 and them having repeated penalties 5 meters out of the try line. We kept attacking their ball carriers before the gain line, instead of waiting we were driving the tackles and pushing them back, and we were able to steal possession or turn the ball over from maul situations.

Set pieces were a lot better, scrum was solid for most part of the match, the second jumper option at line out eased off the pressure from the throw and our hooker Pieter did a great job all afternoon at line out and in the scrums. Big shout and thanks once again to the 1st team players that helped us out last Thursday as we were preparing for the match: Will, Joost, Dax, thanks for all the support.

Boys, I think we are on the right track here, we can now enjoy a couple of weeks with no matches on Sundays and allow our bodies to rest and recover, but training is still on and it is important we keep working, growing and getting better together. The season is long and we need all the players to be ready and fit. Other teams in our pool will have noticed our latest scores and will approach us differently now. We need to be prepared.

At the beginning of the season I told some of you that this would be a fun season of rugby, well I think it is now up to us all to make it an AMAZING ONE!
