Being one of the last matches this season, both teams were determined to get the best result possible under these windy and wet conditions. Towards the end of the season, every team has to cope with the loss of injured players. This week the Amstelveen 2nds were struggling on the front row and scrumhalf position. Word got out that there is this talented #9 withering in our 3rds.. same seems to be taking place in the 3rd team front row. How lucky can a club/team be to have such talent, tucked away, ready to be used when there is a call for. So it happened that we welcomed Paul and Jacq in our ranks.
On to the game.. Hilversum3 fielded there mix of young and old as did we, so it was a happy reunion of familiar faces. Amstelveen used the windy conditions a little better in the 1st half and scored twice with one conversion to their credit. Actually Amstelveen had to score more tries but our decision making and communication got disturbed due to the atmospheric circumstances.. Halftime score 0 - 12.
The 2nd half we planned to use the wind better to our advantage.. but our brain was still in our changing room(or valuable bag?) Anyway we did not play any better, au contraire, we let Hilversum come back into the game with one try and no conversion, 5 - 12.
We have to work on our organization and decision making. In the end we came away with the points, but this was a narrow escape, 5 - 12.
